R&B singer El Debarge was arrested Sunday for domestic violence, and is currently detained in an L.A. County Jail.

Wait a sec, you might say. El DeWho? For the benefit of those who are either too young to remember or weren’t even born in the 1980s, El Debarge is that singer who had a really big hit in 1985 with the song “Rhythm of the Night”, which was remade for one of those medley numbers in Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge” Another claim to fame is that Janet Jackson was once married to his brother James, but that marriage has since been annulled.

Anyway, TMZ updates that the domestic violence charge against El Debarge has been rejected by the L.A. County District Attorney, but he still won’t get out of jail. As it turns out, the singer had been a bad boy, with several outstanding warrants for offenses ranging from vandalism to drugs to driving with a suspended license. Bail, therefore, is out of the question—at least until he faces a judge.
